SOUTHSIDE PRESCHOOL NEWS

BY JOANNE IOB

SPRING IS UPON US

ne of our alumnus presented us with this photo recently. He was very proud of the sunflower that he started from a seed at Southside last Spring. Not only did it survive the squirrels, it grew to almost twice his height! Dana grew quite a bit at preschool too! We will be exploring the Spring theme throughout April, and talking about flowers and gardens, and hopefully filling the neighbourhood with more beautiful sunflowers.

OPEN HOUSE AND REGISTRATION

Keep the evening of Wednesday, April 26 free for our annual Open House and Registration Night, beginning at 7 pm. It's a great opportunity to chat with the teachers about your child and guarantee a spot for next Fall. Southside Preschool offers day programs for 2-5 year olds, and operates Monday-Friday 9-11:30am, Tuesday and Thursday 1-3:30pm.

For those of you new to nursery school programs, we'll give you an idea of what to expect. At Southside, the children have fun experimenting with puzzles, sand, water, playdough, art activities, blocks, climbers and much more. There is also an opportunity for the children to enroll in an additional music program. The qualified staff at Southside encourage the development of independence, resourcefulness, curiosity, creativity and responsibility, and provide a program that stimulates a child's awareness of music, nature and friendship.

Southside has two large sun-filled rooms, one for large muscle activities, the other for fine motor and cognitive skills, as well as an outdoor play yard overlooking the Canal. Outings include walks in the neighbourhood, visits to the Public Library and to Carleton University to see children's theatre productions.

Come view the children's Spring artwork, meet our teachers and enjoy some refreshments at our annual Open House and Registration night. If it's not possible to attend, please feel free to visit the school during operating hours or give Joanne a call at 730-5819. Southside Preschool is located in Southminster Church, Bank and Aylmer, through the Galt Street entrance. Watch for our signs in the neighbourhood.
