SPECIAL EVENTS AT ABBOTSFORD

BY GORDON HAUSER

ou know, your Senior Centre has lots of ongoing activities that fill each weekday. Something for every interest' is our plan and the fact that we have so many members registered shows we have succeeded in catering to people 55 years and older.

We also have special 'one-time' events that mark our year. In May, we start with a bang with our Rock-a-thon on May 6 from 1-4 pm. But, by the time you read this, it may be history. It's a big affair every year, lots of fun, music, refreshments and something to watch even if you don't join in, at 950 Bank opposite Lansdowne Park.

On May 31, at 2 pm, we have a Garden Party. It's a Wednesday and Anstace Esmonde-White, well known gardener and TV host of "Country Gardens", will show us how to make the most of small spaces to create beautiful gardens, patios, decks, balconies, etc. We will have a special tea with this presentation and because we expect a crowd, we ask you to register by purchasing a ticket in advance by May 24. Phone 230-5730 to confirm.

Looking ahead to June 6, we are fortunate to have architectural expert John Leaning, who will give us a fascinating account of The Story of the Glebe. It starts at 1 pm. Come and have lunch at noon and be there in plenty of time for the presentation. Everyone who is interested in his or her local history should be there.

It really isn't so long ago that the tramcars stopped at the end of the line in the Old Ottawa South. That's when the Old Ottawa South was the suburbs. Come and learn how the Glebe and Old Ottawa South developed and ask questions about how the they may flourish in the new Great City of Ottawa. Mark the date on your calendar.
