he OSCA (Ottawa South Community Association) Community Relations & Special Events Committee's first event of the year was Music Night/Come Blow Your Horn in March. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and new local talent was unearthed. Thanks to John & Damon Bond, Nuala Joyce and Dagan Ruismeisel for organising this event.
The 5th Annual Media Event fell victim to lack of support and was cancelled at the last minute. This is a good example of a great idea having run its course. Now it is time to move on to something new! We would, however, like to thank the following merchants who donated door prizes (duly returned): Dairy Queen, Boomerang Kids, Cakes by Tatiana, Hortus Urbanis, Fahrenheit Tea and Coffee House, FX Computers, Roy Barber MacEwen Service Station, Casa Luna, Candlewick and Mrs. Margaret Dickensen for her cook book "From the Ambassador's Table".
There will be no major fundraiser for the Firehall Renovation Fund until next year when a Magic Lantern Show will take place February 2001. More on this closer to the event.
Mark your social calendar for the OSCA Summer Barbecue in Brewer Park Thursday June 22. Food will be served starting 5:30pm, music commencing at 6pm. Last year was my first BBQ and I was truly amazed by the turn out. It seemed we were feeding all of Ottawa!
After the summer, comes the Annual Porch Sale on Saturday, September 9. We need a lead volunteer to coordinate this event since Deirdre McQuillan will be visiting her homeland at this time.
Don't forget the OSCA web site and in particular the community notice board. It is there to serve you and connect you to other like-minded individuals in the neighbourhood!
