LAST DAY OF SCHOOL ON ROSLYN

BY LORA LINDSAY

icking off the start of summer, Roslyn Avenue hosted the second annual Last Day of School Party Friday June 23. Over 350 Old Ottawa South residents gathered to share the joy of the day with their children.

With the aroma of BBQ hotdogs and the sound of the Spice Girls in the air guests took advantage of the numerous activities to enjoy - basketball, face painting, water play, water balloons, egg on spoon races and cup cake walk. New this year (and a big hit) was the bouncy castle and cotton candy machine from Circus Delight Inc.

Dressed in bathing suit, battle wear and armed with buckets, the highlight of the afternoon was the Jello fight. Pails and pails of jello was handed out with no instructions. The grinning children fired handfuls at each other. Hair was streaked with red and green glops and screams of delight were muffled by the directaim of the opposing team.

Adults mingled and socialized in the "Quiet Area" or grazed over the selection of food. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new members of the community.

Entertained by a group of AQUA wannabe's (dancing and singing on the porch) the party wound down by 10:30 pm while the last of the Roslyn Residents cleaned up the "Quiet Area".

Special thanks to the support and food contribution from Loblaws at Billings, Tracey Arnett of Royal Lepage, Pronto (Seneca and Sunnyside) and The Clothes Secret. Thanks to all my fellow Roslyn Residents in making this event such a success. We have great spirit and excellent teamwork skills - congratulations.

Now......I have been thinking about plans for Halloween.....
