CLIVE DOUCET RECOGNIZED

avid Hillary, president of the Old Ottawa South Business Association (OOSBA) and David Bouse, coordinator for OSCATS, recently presented Regional Councillor Clive Doucet with a framed photograph to recognize his work improving the area along Bronson Avenue between Carleton University and Old Ottawa South, especially his recent proposal to establish a cooperative "gateway park" from Confederation Heights to the Rideau Canal.

Seeing constructive change along Bronson has been a primary goal of Councillor Doucet. He lives very near to Bronson and the Carleton University campus and hopes to continue this work as Capital Ward's representative to the much-expanded City of Ottawa government next year.  He has championed and supported many initiatives, such as last year's ECOS project which saw 1000 new trees planted between Brewer Park and the canal.

In recognition of Councillor Doucet's past support for improvement projects in this area and to acknowledge his "gateway park"proposal, several local organizations have joined forces to show our community's appreciation.

Mike Loewen from ECOS, Peter Hecht from OSCAR and other community leaders have indicated their support for this initiative. Carleton University president Richard Van Loon has also indicated his support in principle and several meetings will be held this fall with senior administrators to lay the groundwork for concrete mechanisms aimed at the new City government, Carleton University and the National Capital Commission.

An identical framed photograph, originally taken for OSCAR, will be presented to the OSCA board and ECOS at the upcoming annual general meeting in October. The benefit to our community of the landscaping improvements along Bronson will continue to grow over time. Everyone responsible for this work deserves recognition.

For more information on the "gateway park" concept, contact Clive Doucet's office at 560-1224 or OSCATS representative David Bouse at 730-0728.
