embers, alumni and supporters of the Sunnyside Up's softball team held their Awards & BBQ Tube Steak "Banquet" August 22. The Ups consider themselves to be unofficial league champions due to there impressive string of default victories this season.
Pictured are this years version of the Up's in full uniform as well as the alumni and supporters. Manager Vanessa Liston is seen presenting the coveted Up's Awards to this years deserving recipient's. Award winners in no particular order are as follows:
Best Turned Out - Presented to Brian Roué who displayed a level of effort during the games that allowed his participation without rumpling his uniform or working up a sweat. Way to go, Brian!!!
Enthusiasm (Road Runner) - Presented to Harvey Brodkin for his uncanny ability to function at high energy levels despite the score. (Or perhaps he was just unaware of the dire circumstances the Up's were frequently in). Anyway a high five for Harvey!
Ghost Runner - Presented to Lauren O'Malley in recognition ofher consistent effort of being with the team in spirit, while remaining a phantom on the field. An exceptional demonstration, her apparition was SPOOKY!
Hypochondriac's Award - Presented to Peter (Gimpy) Rutherford in acknowledgment of his unsurpassed ability to garner more injuries in a low impact activity than the rest of the league combined. He must be getting OLD! A great effort from Peter; the team medical staff has suggested however that he hibernate until next season.
Loyalty - Presented to Kevin Radford in recognition for the persistence he displayed by showing up regularly to compete (or was it for the "refreshments" afterwards?) and Foolishly Proudly Admitting to being one of the UP's. Well done!
The Up's wish to thank long-suffering family and supporters for their perseverance and understanding. Rival teams take notice! Up's management is optimistic that with the anticipated return of alumni from retirement, the 2001 season will be an even greater success.
