BUILDING WINDSOR PARK PLAY STRUCTURE

BY ANNE MARIE CORBETT

he money was raised, the million details worked out and it was time to build the structure and swings. I had no real concept of what this would entail and I was hoping it would be easy, without glitches and all wrapped up by 3pm. I hoped!

7 am - I arrived promptly to get the coffee and muffins ready for the volunteers. Weather-wise, it was a perfect day for outdoor work.

7:45 am - the truck arrives with lots of equipment. I mean lotssss!!!

8 am - people start to arrive and we begin unloading, unwrapping and placing all the pieces where we think it should be. While unloading and seeing all this stuff, I realize it will be like assembling a 1000 children's toys (some assembly required) on Christmas eve or assembling an whole household of IKEA furniture.

Cases and cases of nuts & bolts & screws & things I have no idea what they're for. And still don't. I could go on forever but for those who know me, I would rather raise another twenty grand than write an article.

3 pm - the day has been extremely busy, loads of fun, physically demanding but very successful. We're not finished yet.

4 pm - We're not finished yet but we've completed the structure, built the swings, started to paint the fieldhouse.

9 pm - I think we're almost finished painting, staining the benches and garbage containers. Yes it's all done.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved with the project. The of thank you's is as large as the structure, too big to include here. But to each of you who helped and you know who you are, a VERY BIG THANK YOU.
