our Senior Centre at 950 Bank Street has as members, people from all walks of life. Thus, in addition to our extensive list of activities from games to computers; we also have our Book Club.
On October 13 at 1:30pm, the discussion topic will be Kamouraska by Anne Hebert. What is the advantage of a group discussion? To find, to your surprise, other views of characters that may never have occurred to you when you read the book.
The enriching experience of learning other interpretations of the plot line is certainly worthwhile. There is no right or wrong point of view. Everybody's opinion is given equal weight and discussion can get delightfully involved and, therefore, instructive of the author's intention. New members are welcome and if you want to know more, phone our magic number and ask all the questions you want. 230-5730
As seniors, that is 55 years old and above, we have a wealth of experience that we take for granted. It's a pity we don't always share some of our experiences. I oftenregret that I did not write down the stories of that Hopewell School graduate of long ago, of how he teased the cows in the field that sloped down from the back of the school.
Such stories illuminate the development that is changing our world. Happily, Mr. May here did write of his school memories for his grandchildren. They were so interested that they took the story to school where students loved it and passed it from class to class. Perhaps your account of your childhood will become a classic like Kurelek's Prairie Boyhood.
If you love books, attending our Book Club and meeting others with the same addiction will get you past your writer's block and set you recounting events that have made your life so interesting.
However, if you are also interested in other things, the Bridge Club beckons, the Snooker table is just waiting to be played and the Stamp Club will help you find the fortune in that book of stamps you collected years ago. Always something interesting happens here!
